As many know, we moved our sister event, The Great Mac and Chili Challenge from it's usual February date to the first Sunday in November AND we moved venues, holding it at Sherwood Island State Park. The weather was ideal for great comfort food and thousands came out to determine the winners, much like Chowdafest.
I realized that there is a small overlap between and chowda-head and a chili-head. You're usually in one camp or the other with both being a discernible foodie and both being wildly passionate about either one. It's great to have separate events that cater to chowder and chili lovers. I will say that both groups love their mac though! Some love it like grandma used to make it while others love designer versions of it - whether is's all "jacked" up or piled high with BBQ pork.
We had 20 restaurants including one, the Firehouse Grill, that is owned and operated by a volunteer firefighter. It seems almost a prerequisite to have firefighters involved somehow, if only to extinguish the fire in you mouth. We'll be back at Sherwood on Nov. 5, 2017 - mark it down in your calendar and plan on joining the fun.
