We're in the midst of comfort food season and chowder, soup and bisque are atop of my favorite list. What's not to love about chowder? There are some many unbelievable variations that you might get full before trying them all but never sick of trying them. One such chowder is the Shrimp & Chorizo Chowder from The Spread in Norwalk. I've been trying to get back to them for some more since they won the creative chowder category last fall - I need the fix.
I bumped into co-owner Chris Hickey at Chilifest the other day. I told him that so many people come up to to me and tell me how fantastic Chef Carlo's chowder is that they make special pilgrimages to get it. It's so popular that Chris had to convince Carlos to keep it on the menu despite his passion for always new menu items.
We're already working on Chowdafest '15 and I'm out and about trying great chowders and soups from across the state in our quest of pulling together the best competition yet. No doubt The Spread will be back to defend as they certainly have distinguished themselves in the top echelon of culinary wizards. As a fellow chowda-head, I trust you're not only frequenting those great restaurants that have competed in Chowdafest but trying new ones as well to let me know if you think someone is particularly "worthy" of participating this fall. Just comment to this blog and we'll check them out. Happy Valentines!
