It's October or as it may soon become, Octchowda! It's the time of year when autumn brings cooler weather and wonderful fall colors reminding us it's the beginning of soup and chowder season!
It's difficult to be impartial to the creative chowder category, maybe even more so with this year's line-up. While all our chefs are extraordinary in their own way, a few of them have a keen eye for marketing to compliment their culinary good taste. The food industry has awaken to "buying local" and focuses on the Farm to Fork experience bringing a new freshness to their food.
The trend continues with several creative chowders entered this year. You can almost smell The Great Pumpkin & Lobster Chowder capitalizing on the pumpkin season and the classic "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown".
Then there's the turkey, cheese & bacon chowder with hints Thanksgiving is around the corner. Bacon on anything is just that much better - time to roast this year's turkey with a few strips!
Pictured above is a zucchini, corn & bacon chowder. No, it's not in this years competition but there is an artichoke, spinach & chicken chowder! I'm guessing a cousin of the gooey goodness of a hot artichoke & spinach dip! There's also a chorizo & shrimp chowder.
Of course, the creativity is not just restricted to chowders. The soup & bisque category features a roasted chicken, barley and candied bacon soup. Yes, candied bacon! There's chicken cilantro bisque and a Thanksgiving harvest bisque, even a chicken pot pie soup!
A week to go until Chowdafest - grab your spoon and get your ticket! See you there - you can be in the line behind me!
